It was a pleasure connecting with so many friends and colleagues at IBC 2022. Let’s hope by now everyone has made it home safely and no one is still trapped in the lines at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol! When Epic Games launched Unreal and the underlying game engine in 1998, their goal was simple enough: create better games. As they made their tools available to others, however, first through direct licensing agreements, then via the Unreal Developer Kit in 2009, and eventually through Unreal Engine in 2014, it became clear that there was a demand for tools that could create photo-realistic video content that extended beyond the gaming world. And over the past few years, this demand has grown further. We’re seeing all kinds of video and video streaming in Unreal Engine, in industries that span from…

If you have been using Red5 Pro, you may have noticed the words “Cauldron” and “Brew” sprinkled throughout our documentation. It may sound sinister, but don’t worry - we haven’t started mixing potions! Although it sounds like magic, Cauldron and Brew are actually two aspects of Red5 Pro’s transcoding solutions. In the medical profession, hands-on experience is crucial to learning the trade. Patients need caretakers they can trust; professionals must be confident and skilled as well as compassionate. But because it’s not always possible to train in clinical situations with live patients, simulations, both in-person and virtual, are a key element for learning about and practicing medical procedures in a realistic environment. In-person medical simulations using actors playing the part of patients are a popular way to replicate real-life situations. However, as distance learning has gained traction over the past few years, educators are also turning to immersive online…

When anyone anywhere can bend the course of narratives in multiplayer games, whether or not they’re engaged in the competition, or appear as virtual video contestants with on-site panelists in game shows, old game-defining boundaries disappear. In fact, with connected TVs emerging as the dominant OTT viewing platform, it’s not hard to imagine the lines will soon be blurred between multiplayer video games and…
